FEATURED TRAINING:
Certified Medical Assistant
FAMILIES SERVED:
11 moms
21 children
Hands-On Experience
Gillette’s recent training included several weeks of skills training at Campbell County Health, followed by hands-on clinical practice with local healthcare providers, including Wyoming Medical Associates, Wyoming Orthopedic and Spine, Powder River Surgery Center, and Campbell County Medical Group. The clinical practice provided opportunities for checking vitals, taking blood draws and giving injections, wound care, and more.
Support from the Group
Working together in a group is one of the key components of Climb’s model because it intentionally creates social capital and helps moms learn new ways to get support in their lives. Group interactions also provide opportunities to practice critical workplace communication skills, like handling conflict, that will come up on the job.
Impacting the Next Generation
This group felt great pride in demonstrating to their kids how to bravely take on new learning opportunities. “We’re showing our children how to pursue your education in order to get ahead in life,” says graduate Nikki. Along with others in her group, Nikki is pursuing additional medical training by taking a phlebotomy course and plans to become certified within the year.
